Fall Slam

Greetings PeaceJammers!

The protection and sustainment of our collective environment is a cause for which youth have taken over the front-lines. “Protecting the Environment” is also one of the #peacejam and #billionactsofpeace Focus Areas.

We feel that this topic is especially relevant and important at this time. It can feel overwhelming to fully understand and address on one’s own. That’s why we are coming together to more fully understand the problem itself, receive inspiration from those addressing it, and hopefully find our place in taking action.
We are being joined by the youth climate organizers, the Kalamazoo Climate Crisis Coalition, Sunrise Movement, Extinction Rebellion, Great Lakes Water Protectors, Water Walkers, and more.

Here’s what is going to happen

An Interactive Panel that will feature voices from a variety of ages, experiences, opinions, and plans of action. Despite the differences between panelists and the audience, all will be striving to find the commonality in a vision of a safe and protected environment. It will be set-up to be exceptionally engaging and inclusive of the PeaceJam participants.
Workshops run by both participating panelists as well as other local activists and organizations. We are excited to present workshops that are mean’t to educate on the different aspects and avenues of action within the climate (and larger environmental) movement.
The panel and workshops will prepare PeaceJammers for the Climate Summit, where students will self-select to participate in the creation of an action plan over a climate crisis topic. The objective is to return to their communities with an action plan to address that particular issue. Each student-led focus group will also provide lines to add to an overall declaration of action on the climate crisis.
